Pipe bursting is a trenchless method of replacing buried pipelines (such as sewer or water pipes) without the need for a traditional construction trench. “Launching and receiving pits” replace the trench needed by conventional pipe-laying.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Pipe Bursting method uses a strong cable that is connected from one end of the pipe to the other. Attached to the cable is a “pipe bursting head.” Then, a professional replacement company will use a strong winch located at the other end to pull the head with the new pipe behind it. Therefore, the new pipe is pulled through the old pipe. Finally, the old pipe breaks and is replaced with the new one.
BUT THERE’S A BETTER WAY…CIPP
While many companies will undertake pipe bursting as a way of replacing failing pipes, the team at APR has been using a different method for safe and clean pipe repairs: Cured-in-Place Piping, or CIPP. CIPP is a great alternative for business owners in search of environmentally friendly processes.
In CIPP, a new piece of pipe is inserted into the existing pipe. High-quality epoxy resin is used to bond the two sections together, strengthening both parts. Once the resin has been applied, the pipes will cure for a few hours to a day, depending on the length of pipe involved. Of course, CIPP is an industry standard, but a new variation is taking shape throughout Texas.
MEET UV CIPP
UV (or Ultraviolet) CIPP takes CIPP to the next level. It has all the great benefits of traditional CIPP, but with a special twist: it’s even faster to get back to normal when UV CIPP is used. This is possible because UV CIPP uses UV and LED lights to cure the resin–at a rate of up to 8 meters in 8 minutes. There’s no more waiting for pipes to cure through steam or ambient temperatures. Your pipes can be back to normal in a matter of hours.
