When you need pipeline repairs, the last thing you want to worry about is how you will afford the expensive equipment or prepare for the downtime. For so many years, pipeline repairs have required digging in commercial and industrial facilities. Thanks to new technology and skills, trenchless pipe repairs have become a suitable option for almost any type of pipe repair need.
Whether you have large-diameter piping, pipes that are hard to get to, or even vertical pipelines, you have trusted solutions that work. That solution is CIPP or cured-in-place piping.
In this guide, we share more details about how CIPP provides a trenchless solution for your needs.
Understanding CIPP
CIPP is a liner tubing that is placed in the pipe and then cured to seamlessly seal to the pipe. This liner has no seams and is very thin so that it doesn’t obstruct flow through the pipes. What really makes CIPP unique is that you don’t have to dig down to pipes to place it. Instead, it’s placed using a specialized tool that works a little bit like a robot. The liner just needs time to cure before you can get back to business.
Here’s how it works.
Inspection
Before anything else happens, the pipelines are inspected using a video camera. This camera is attached to a probe that is similar to a snake that goes through the pipes. In the case of large-diameter pipes, a robot that can travel through the pipes is used instead. This allows us to see any problem areas and know exactly what we need to do.
Liner Insertion
Once we have inspected and determined where the liner needs to be placed, we can get to work. The liner will be inserted through a utility hole access point, so no digging is required. This is what makes the process trenchless. We then use our equipment to get the liner where it needs to be and get it set in place.
Liner Curing
To complete the process, the liner just needs time to dry and cure. Depending on the overall design, we may be able to use UV to help speed up the curing and drying process. In general, curing takes less than 24 hours and may only take a few hours to complete.
Final Touches
When the liner is placed and everything is complete, we double-check our work to be sure things are taken care of properly. This means a final inspection to ensure the repair is complete. This is completed so any additional measures can be taken if needed.
